University of Denver
AR Poster

AR poster through Instagram/Facebook for students accepted to University of Denver. Created with the fun, chunky style of Monty Python in mind, the experience shows potential uDenver students what makes the university & Colorado itself so special. The user can tap three areas on the augmented poster to activate each experience.

From Poster to Experience

We were given the task of augmenting this poster sent to students accepted to University of Denver. The goal of the experience is to show these graduating students why DU and Denver is so unique, and to make their admission to DU official.

We were given a PSD file of the poster design and went from there! We leaned into the blocky, cutout nature of the poster design for the augmentation. All 2D elements were extruded into 3D objects to give the poster some depth within the frame. Think thick paper cutouts layered across several planes. I worked with our 3D modeler to turn all 2D images into 3D assets. Subtle movement animations were added throughout to give the scene to life even in its idle state.

Concept Ideation

We stuck to a more blocky animation style, in line with the Monty Python inspiration & cutout nature of the poster. I separated the poster into foreground, middle ground, and background based on the river, and ideated three experiences - ‘the raft’, ‘the goat’, and ‘the mouth’.

Additionally, I designed a more simple augmentation for the back of the poster, with the goal to get students to experience the other side

This project had an extremely quick turnaround of two weeks from concept to completion. To start, I created mockups of the three experiences and of the back augmentation, so I could get client approval then work with the developers on implementation.
